Fall Creek Falls Engagement

fall creek falls spring engagement

Fall Creek Falls is one of those places I’d add to any Tennessee must-shoot list. So when Jake reached out about a Fall Creek Falls engagement session — a surprise proposal, specifically — I said yes immediately. Then I remembered the trail.

Still said yes. But I want you to know it was a commitment.

About Fall Creek Falls State Park

Fall Creek Falls State Park is about two hours from Nashville and it’s straight up stunning. The waterfall is one of the tallest in the eastern United States, and getting there requires hiking in, which means by the time you arrive, you’ve earned the view. It also means the location feels remote and special in a way that a lot of popular spots don’t anymore.

The hike down is about 15 minutes which is manageable! It’s the hike back up that sneaks up on you.

Photos at Fall Creek Falls have an incredible quality to them because of the setting. The way the light peeks through the trees, the sound of the water, even just the scale of the falls themselves. It does so much of the work for you.

The Moment Before the Proposal

When I made it to the base of the falls, I picked out a large rock for them to stand on for the moment (a perfect natural stage in front of the falls). When Rea spotted it, she looked at it and said something along the lines of “oh, the Lion King Pride Rock?”

She had no idea & it was so wholesome.

The Proposal

Jake got down on one knee and Rea’s face said everything. She was SO happy. Like the kind of happy that takes over your whole body and you can’t contain it even if you tried.

The Engagement Session

After the proposal we moved into the full engagement session, still at the falls. They were both so happy and completely at ease. It made the session feel effortless. When the couple in front of you just got engaged in front of a waterfall, you don’t have to do much.

The hike back up was also beautiful. A little more work than the hike down, but worth every step.

Planning a Fall Creek Falls Engagement

If you’re thinking about proposing at Fall Creek Falls or doing an engagement session there, here’s what I’d tell you: plan for more time than you think you need, wear comfortable shoes, and hire a photographer who is okay with a hike. The Fall Creek Falls photos you’ll end up with are absolutely worth it.

I’d love to be there for it. Let’s chat 🙂
